Feelin’ Groovy

Slow Down. You move too fast. You gotta make the morning last. La. . La . . La . . La . .
Feelin’ groovy.
I love Feelin’ Groovy by Simon & Garfunkel.
However, I’m not good at slowing down.
When I was working on my doctoral dissertation, I complained to a friend about how much time it took to learn a software application that formatted APA Style into my document. She said, “Judith, sometimes you gotta’ go slow to go fast.”
Wise woman.
Admittedly, I struggle with slowing down in my artwork. When I explained my dilemma to Chuck, he said, ‘You know, Judith, a golfer hits at least 10,000 shots before he considers himself a good golfer.”
Wise man.
I painted a small sign and hung it in my studio. It reads simply, “10,000.” I know what it means.
I’ve spent the last two weeks slowing down. In my art world, that means creating studies. Yep. Studies. They’re not pretty. They’re not finished. They’re simply studies.
Who knows?
Maybe if I continue creating studies, I’ll be “Feelin’ groovy” in spite of myself.
